ADVENT: HOPE

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Romans 8:22-25

Hope

The evening light has been

nodding to darker nights

Seasons change fast these days

And there is a soberness that comes as dusk falls on cold evergreen trees

With the light fleeting, my heart has been heavy,

With eyes looking for hope and resolution in all the wrong places.

But I’m learning that even here that darkness is not an exit but an invitation.

Like a mother in the pains of labor, a glorious hope awaits at the end of struggle.

There is hope when we embrace

the dark nights of our souls.

So I’ll keep this steady light on inside of me,

Burning low but still there

With its voice flickering and whispering with the beautiful reminder that a new season is being birthed.

There is a great redemption coming,

Even here.

Even now.
