LEARNING TO FORGIVE

Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.

Luke 11:4

Learning to Forgive

I have a tendency to white knuckle my truth

Lay out my calculated evidence

For every way I have been wronged

To prove, I must prove that I am right

The whisper of a kind father reminds me

Of the tree of life,

Obliterating my utter human need for clean

cut lines that spell out right and wrong

I am trying to walk back to the garden

My most sacred place of being

Throwing out the notes with all the reasons why

And reaching for love instead

Letting go of the stones

And turning my face towards home

This is better said than done,

Father,

Help me for where

I desperately try to forgive on my own terms

Instead of letting you heal me;

like I so desperately need.
